The Winn Dixie had round steak on sale buy one package get one package free so I couldn't resist. After getting it home I realized that in reality I only knew how to cook the flour breaded deep fried round steak that dear mom made. So I went in search of a non-breaded recipe.
I came upon this one at www.about.com under Southern Food.
1 1/2 to 2 pounds of round steak
2 tablespoons vegetable oil I use Mazola
1 can (10 1/2 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
1/4 cup water
1 cup frozen small white onions ( I had to use jarred onions)
1 tablespoon chopped parsley for garnish
Cut round steak into serving-size pieces. In a heavy skillet, brown steak in hot oil over medium heat. Drain off excess fat. Combine soup, water, onions; pour over meat. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Sprinkle with parsley before serving if desired.
